I'm very new to PhotoFiltre, but it does seem to be a very decent editor so far. However I'm struggling a bit with the lasso tool when creating colour/black and white effects on a photo.
What I can do is mask around a section of the photo, invert the selection, make the rest of the photo black and white (leaving the bit I want in colour). This is good but the edge between the colour and black and white is harsh/solid. What I want is to make is a more gradual change/fade between them. Is there a setting for this somewhere ?
Thank you for any help.
Steve

Re: Lasso tool and sharp edges ?
Hi Steve, and welcome,
do a right clic in the selection / Antialiasing / Progressive contour
but remember to set it again in Antialias mode for further classic work.
You can also work with a mask and control the gray size between black and white areas.
(white to mask, black to able the area, in the PF6 version)
You can find a tutorial with mask on the official site of PF6 : http://photofiltre.free.fr/tutoriels/op ... ipping.htm
You should try the PF7 freeware version which works with layers and is very usefull for refine the edges with the eraser tool for example.

Re: Lasso tool and sharp edges ?
Thanks Tom, I'll have another look now...
something else I forgot to ask... when you lasso/mask can you add and substract from it (other programs use SHIFT and CTRL to add bits that have missed or remove bits that have overlapped)... ?

Re: Lasso tool and sharp edges ?
On a mask you can modify the areas black, white or grey.
For PF6 you can only add new areas to a selection with the color mode of the magic wand.
It's not very user friendly.
But in PF7 freeware with layers you can add areas to a selection with Ctrl key down or subtract with Alt key down.
