Save as .png (automatic) no background
Select object with rectangle
Resize rectangular section making selection smaller.
Crop to selection
Convert to RGB
With PFS 8.0 this procedure resulted in having a rectangular colored square behind the object being processed, in this instance purple.
Post Script: the individual object makes a nice icon.

I managed to circumvent the problem by adding a background to my png, merging the object to the back ground and then making the rectangle selection, resizing it to the desired image size. I was in the process of creating a nozzle, and when I had my five images I assembled them, converted the image to RGBA, and removed the white background resulting with the following nozzle:
