how do I make paste special become highlighted?

Hi All

I copied and pasted 5 pictures together for a heading which was great!

However, when I attempted to make another heading I couldn't because
the 'paste special' is not highlighted.

Does anyone know what I must do to clear it/unfreaze it ?

I bring up the photo I want to use, click on image and then 'mode' isn't highlighted

I realize now what the problem is.

If I do as you say then the background of these images re-appears.

I don't want this to happen. I want them (the flowers) not to have a background.

Maybe it's impossible to join images together unless they have a background.

I'm sorry but you invert the places.
I think properly you could try a little more.
There is no problem to copy a picture in indexed colours or containing transparency.
But to paste, there is no way to do it on a such picture without background.
You have to chose a background colour rather different those of your pictures.
Any way, when your work is done, you can select the background with the magic wand and do :
menu Image/Automatic transparency/Inside selection
so you have again a picture in indexed colours with transparency.
If the result is not which you wish, don't forget the undo button.
