If I cut an object from one photo and paste it into another there is a box around the object after I do the pasting. Then, if I try adjust the color of that obect with color balancing feature anytime I move the slider into the negative (-) side of a color the ENTIRE BOX and OBJECT, and anything else which is inside the box area, change color, not just the object that was pasted in even though the pasted object has the little dashed selection line moving around its perimeter. This does not happen if I move the slider into the positive (+) range; then, only the pasted object inside the box changes color. The same exact thing also happens with other selections in the 'ADJUST' menu, not just with color balance, which I use only as an example. Why is this happening? Is this a bug in the program?
The only way I have determined this can be solved is to paste the object in and then AGAIN draw a polygon around its edge as I did when I did the cut operation on the photo from which it came. Doing this eliminates the box that surrounds the object. However, having to do this is very time consuming.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Hi gman and welcome,
When an object is pasted first, the pasting is not completed :
If you do a right clic on the pasting, you can see a special menu for some options and validation.
So, before to paste, you can change colors, or copy, or also save the form of your selection in menu Selection. After paste, you get the selection to apply on the object and you can do any effects without dashes around the object.
For a precise position of the selection around the object, you can observ the values in the state bar above the work space of PF.
I'm will be pleased to read you soon.

Hi, Tom,
Thank you for your response. After reading what you wrote I tried again. I outline an object on one photo, selected copy and then went to the other image and selected paste by right clicking. I pasted the object in, but there was a dased line moving around the box I mentioned before. First, why is the dashed line moving around the box and not the obects perimeter / outline? So, I then right clicked to see the special menu you spoke of, but did not see anything there to change color balance, etc. Just validate paste, transform, and a couple of other selections. Before validating paste, and as I stated, if I try to change color, as long as I move the slider into the positive range, ONLY the object will be affected by the change. However, when I move the slider into the negative range, the change is applied to the entire area inside the box. This does not make sense to me. Why does moving the slider into the negative zone cause the entire area inside the box to change color, not just the object that was copied and pasted? Everything is fine as long as I ONLY move the slider into the POSITIVE range.
As that didn't work, I selected validate paste. This removed the box with the dashed line, but then when I tried to change color the change was applied across the ENTIRE image, which is not what I want. I only what to change the color, brightness , etc. of the object I pasted in.
Also, once I paste the object in and perform any operation, the right click menu changes and does not have the validate funtion any longer.
I just tried another method. I outlined object, selected 'Copy / Load Shape' under Selection, then I pasted the object into the other image. I then went back to Selection and selected 'Paste Shape' which then put the dashed line around the object and removed the box. This allowed me to changed the color inside the shape. Very long method.
Still, that is a very odd way and long method to do this operation. If one cuts or copies a particular shaped object from one photo, that EXACT shape is what should be pasted in with the dashed line moving around it, not a box containingg the object and with the dashed line moving around the edge of the box.
Unless you know of another method to get rid of the box without saving the shape, then I guess this is what I will need to do. I wanted to use the PhotoFiltre program for something I was doing, but went back to Adobe PhotoDeluxe due to the layering ability and the ease of cutting, pasting, altering color, contrast, etc. of an object that is added to a different image. The BIG, BIG drawback of PhotoDeluxe is the lack of 'undo' (only 1 step) and toolbars with icons (always have to use drop down menus to do anything).
Thanks again for any help and assistance. I have some other questions, but will post them later.
Regards,
gman

Hi gman,
First, why is the dashed line moving around the box and not the objects perimeter / outline?
=> because the object is not completely pasted : you can move it, transform it, play on transparency of one colour, or play on opacity of the global object.
But you must validate the paste before to do correctly anything else on a real selected area.
Before validating paste, and as I stated, if I try to change color, as long as I move the slider into the positive range, ONLY the object will be affected by the change.
=> the dashed line around the object is NOT a selection line, you must validate the paste before to do correctly anything else on a real selected area.
I then went back to Selection and selected 'Paste Shape' which then put the dashed line around the object and removed the box. This allowed me to changed the color inside the shape. Very long method.
=> but the true one to do in order that you want.
=> quicker method : change the color before copy
You can open side by side the two images in the PF workspace (menu Window/Mosaic) to compare the colors between the both images
but went back to Adobe PhotoDeluxe due to the layering ability and the ease of cutting, pasting, altering color, contrast, etc.
=> You can use the same abilty on layers with the PhotFiltre Studio shareware release and very cheap. It's very much usefull for such works.
