Feather Selection

Is there a way to feather a selection whereas the amount may be determined by the user? It would be great to use in conjunction with alpha layer masks and layers in general. I have experimented with progressive contouring and contour with no satisfactory outcome. Now, if there is already a way to do this, please point me to the tutorial. Thank you.

I have almost the same question : Is possible to feather a selection? Even if it's just a default x pixels "feather".

In photofiltre? In studio?

Not possible, but you can use PhotoMasque with the transparent mode. Create a mask with a "feather" border and apply it to a layer. Applicated to a layer (not the background) PFS change the alpha channel

I was just ready to ask the same question

I used for image editing PhotoFiltre and GIMP. I really like photofiltre, and use it mostly, because it's light. Because of layer support and RAW support I decided to upgrade to photo-filtre studio, and I'm happy. The only two things I'm missing (I have them in GIMP) are this feather and some scripting capabilities (like Actions in PhotoShop or Script-fu in GIMP)

I will be really happy to have at least feather, because I use it frequently, when I edit photos, or at least to have selection -> alpha channel mask, so it will be easy to blur the mask, and so to have a feather.

Of course there is a decizion to make a feather of Magic wand selection, but it's slow. I finded one way:
1. Add a new white layer on the top
2. Make a selection with magic wand in your layer
3. go to the white layer and fill with black
4. Soften/Blur More (you decide how much)
5. Adjust/Negative
6. Cut
7 Paste as an Alpha Channel

But I will really like to have the simple, one touch FEATHER

in the studio version you can use Layer > Border effect > progressive contour. repeat this filter...

... but this makes the layer contour feathered, not the selection?! Or I make a mistake somewhere?
