make the tool visible

Message par Leland »

Hello.

A great program. Congratulations and thanks.

I figured out how to use the paint tool as an eraser (and am very proud of myself).

I still need help with one thing: I need to make the paint/erase tool visible. That is, I need to see what I am going to erase before I push down on the mouse button. Is there any way to make the "footprint" of the tool visible on the image?

Thanks,

Leland

Hi Leland,

There is no previous "footprint", but :
- the center of the pointer is very precise and its coordonates are dysplaid in the state line on bottom of the workspace.
- you can apply a left clic with the tool to estimate its visual position and you can use undo to replace the tool on an other position.

Tom,

Thank you for the reply.

I am sure that for 99.99 percent of the users it is a trivial matter. Unfortunately, for what I do, it is critical that I be able to "see" the tool on the image, as I do a lot of precision painting and erasing on complex images.

It is something the developers might want to think about in future updates if it is not too difficult.

Thanks again.

Leland

Is there an eraser tool? I am not experienced at editing photos but very much want to remove a "rod" that goes through the photo which includes grass and an animal's fur. Thanks! Anne :?

Hi, Anne,

with an eraser, in other softwares, the space erased takes the colour of the background colour in the palet tool.
You can choose any colour you wish and apply the paintbrush tool.

But for your case, there is a better tool than an eraser tool : the clone stamp tool. You select an area you want to copy by a Ctrl + Left clic, and then you apply this area :
- as it is, if the fixed box is checked
- or, if not checked, as an area with regard to the the first selected, following the moving of your second left clic down. Try it, it's better to understand this function.
Of course you can always undo that you did.
