applying techniques to area outside of selection

Hi,
How to do apply techniques to the area outside of my selection. For example..... today a took a picture of a bug on a window. I can outline the bug, but I would like to blur the area around him, leaving him untouched.

to work outside the selection, use the menu Selection > Invert
