Ambiguity with converting to PNG
Hello.
I use PhotoFiltre 6.2.7 and 6.5.2. There is a serious bug with "automatization" tool. Take a look at this two PNG (in attachments) - first converted manualy from original BMP, and second - with use of "Automatization" function. Both of them have similar color space - 16 colors. But first weighs only 60 kb, while second - at least 122 kb !
What's wrong?

Re: Ambiguity with converting to PNG
I think it is not a bug but perhaps your base image is in 256 colors ?
When you use the automate, it force image in 16M for filters and when you save the file is bigger.
In the automate, you must force the color count to 256 to reduce the file size. Of course if all your base images are in 256 colors max...

Re: Ambiguity with converting to PNG
I tested it with different pictures - the same result. For example look at the properties of presented "Test" images:
Manual:
Auto:
Current job - reducing weights of some scanned images. Original images have 16 colors, but are presented in BMP.
Manual: opening, converting to RGB (as you said), converting to 16 colors, saving to PNG. Result - 147kb. File properties: "4-bit color image"
Auto: converting to 16 colors, saving as PNG. Result - 3,8 MB. File properties: "4-bit color image"
It looks like a bug, smells like a bug... So... It's a bug.
Manual:
Code : Tout sélectionner
Proprietes de l'image
Nom de l'image : Test manual.png
Dossier : C:\Documents and Settings\Саша\Рабочий стол\
Dimensions : 500 x 500 pixels ==> 13,23 x 13,23 cm (96,00 dpi)
Nombre de couleurs : 15
Taille du fichier : 59,63 Ko

Re: Ambiguity with converting to PNG
I tested, it is not a bug but i use a default compression level = 7 for direct save function and Compression level = 0 in the batch module.
I will set compression level = 9 (best size) for both in the next version
I will set compression level = 9 (best size) for both in the next version

Re: Ambiguity with converting to PNG
But what about "users which remain allergic to layers"?
