That's not because we're under Windows we should pay for every program we want to use whereas Linux user can have it for free. If you can help me, because I just wonder why it's always thinked that every Windows user is so rich that he can pay for every think.
Basically i think if you don't want get your hand dirty you are supposed to find somebody doing the job for you.(as a software you want)
In Win this usually means pay somebody to do that job
In Linux (to be correct in
Open Source) you can find people available to do that job you need for free....BUT they will work
only when they like...they will do the job
only in the way THEY like...and at the condition that all the "how to" of their job will be pubblically available.
If you will try to complain that they are to slow they will just invite
YOU to work more ...or hire somebody else quicker.
Often the final result is even better then the paied one (see FireFox or OpenOffice) but you get no garancy about...neither you can complain or ask the money back
(Still from the eyes of somebody that paied for a similar job, you can get the same or even better result for free (IF you get a result.at all..)
if a community works for free to develop, improve , port, test a software is normal that they pretend to use it for free, at least on their free Operative Sistem
"Linux" community get Xara for free also becouse they are developing (porting) Xara for free, and even many "average"users are spending time to fill bug reports forms and testing unstable software that could even crash their computer...
Xara developer support them , but most of the work is done buy unpaid volunteers (and within the timeframe of free unpaied volunteers )
At the end the Linux_Xara could be even better then the 50E Win Version..just now nobody could complain for crash, bug or missed feature
(if they do STANDARD ANSWER is ready
:
you are right ,Please write a patch to fix the code !...
Basic point to me is that Xara didn't do for charity but to avoid to be killed or eaten by Adobe...and also freeware and shareware developers want the same thing
Please note also that is possible also sell software for Linux , even if usually what most linux users are
willing to pay for is only services and customized support and not the software itself..
