grunge style

Hi, I tried a "grunge style" image
this is original image:


and this is a bit dirty result


In fact, I was inspired by this PS tutorial (look at his pictures, absolutely love them): http://www.dexlo.com/wordpress/index.php?p=4

I recommend the zip which he offers http://www.dexlo.com/wordpress/tutorial ... images.zip - It is a collection of useful images - sources for the "dirt", and windings.
He also offers source for PS brushes as images - great for creating masks - http://www.dexlo.com/wordpress/index.php?p=16

I made a mask for the lines: http://photofiltre.suewebik.net/galerie ... esmask.jpg

Generally, I used several masks or simply part of "dirt" masks (where i make transparent color from white) and inserted them into selections in the main picture with various level of opacity, then I inserted the winding symbols. And then I applied the "scanline mask" and finally, I created the text. It is Haettenschweiler font with glass deformation, black countours, gaussian blurr and then filled with brown (using the pot manually)

the second image is a bit different. I made a tutorial for it, unfortunately in czech http://photofiltre.suewebik.net/grunge.html
You can download the original picture and some masks there.
I used histogram and then the graphic formula ( I found it here in forums in the graphism thread) to get "sharp" countours in the face.
Then I selected black color and replaced it with brown using the magic wand and the pot.
Then I applied "dirt" using the option "twocolours" in the photomasque.
(the two small "brown pictures" in the middle demonstrate the difference betwen "twocolor" checked and unchecked in the photomasque). Then I inserted some "grafiti" extracted from another picture.
Finally I tried using several masks for the "lines" . The mask used here is linesmask3, repeated . ( http://photofiltre.suewebik.net/tipy/gr ... smask3.jpg )
I used gold color for lines in the photomasque. To avoid the face, I selected white color using the magic wand, then inverted selection and applied the linesmask mask to the selection only.

I also took a look at dexco website and links, Vered's works etc..
That would probably be easier to create our own brushes for drawing (and also choose the patterns and texture..)like:

As to the vered site and the tutorial .. ok It is a challenge, I will try it in Photofiltre . I will be very busy this night
What about ... making the brushes effects as patterns, make a selection using lasso or polygon and fill it with pattern, then shift the selection a bit and apply it again ...

Thanks for your appreciation and almost for the "grunge style" idea in the forum.I think it will have great success in my family portraits

Yesterday late evening, I tried to reproduct with PF Vered'textures at each step of his tutorial:it took me a loooooooooooooooong time because you can't create brushes with PF (maybe should we submit it to Antonio )
As your idea up-above, I created several masks with vered'brushes,selected areas of my pictures with polygon,then opened photomask,apply brushmask and chose a color or pattern,I did the same to add some splatters.
(a little bit frustrating)

Afterall....this is the result:


Not so bad???but far away from the original..

As for the brushes. For pf-studio there will probably be the photoshop plugin for brushes, and for the photofiltre - if we could make our own brushes - not as good as profesional version, but big improvement either.
Will you ask Antonio about it?
