Old and New Attempts

Realizing I showed some of my Photofiltre images in the wrong thread, I repost them here in a new one.

A short introduction – I’m Dutch, male. English and Dutch teacher.
I can read and understand French quite well; however, I would make too many mistakes writing it – therefore, I’ll just stick to English.

As a hobby, I used to make collages of cut-out and painted scraps of paper. In this I was inspired by Matisse, of course.
When I discovered Photofiltre I was quick to grasp the programme would enable me to do more or less the same digitally.

My method: for me, the content of the photographic material is less important. I roughly cut up a couple of pictures at random, and assemble the pieces into a new composition. Usually, the new creation does not at all refer to the original photos.

It’s hard work. That’s part of the fun, though. It takes many hours for me to make a composition. As a rule, I’ll feel insecure about the results after finishing it. Well, I keep on trying.

Some examples of my non-digital products –

And photofiltre manipulations:

I used an old creation for this one, and combined it with pictures found in one of Grzimek’s animal encyclopedias and a photo taken of a birch in my front yard.

Wandering through the threads, I think the wonderful creations of many, many members will give me lots of inspiration!

Your work is really great! I like your imagniation, the colors in your products, digitals or not!
It is a really a good idea to use pieces of photographies to create others things with photofiltre...

Thank you all for your kind comments.

And Symphonie -
First, I am talking to the english teacher : I apologize for my horrible english, I have been a lot of time without speaking or writing it!
Your English is great!
But, nobody should feel obliged to address me in English...French will be fine with me if you prefer it.

Tom - yes, you pin-pointed it; composition is the very aspect I try to pay most attention to. Well, all members do, I guess. Further, I go through the whole spectrum of Photofiltre's features over and over again (for as much as I know the programme) in order to arrive at the final result, whatever that will be.
I still work with a free version. I do not doubt Studio would make me almost afraid of the endless possibilities :!:

Sure, you are right, the free version is a very good and intuitive tool, and Studio offers a lot of advanced possibilities.
But before to overcome all it's functions, that's not still my case, you can win so much time and pleasure with layers and multiple selections, for example...

These are two totems hanging on the wall in my living-room. They’re ca. 1m50 high. The panels are multiplex; the forms on it were made with some kind of sawdust containing a glue solution. This material can be modelled like clay. Afterwards I painted the panels with oils and so-called ‘antique’ colours.

So, does photofiltre come in at all, you may wonder. Most certainly! Namely, I had two pictures of the panels, an old and a recent one. On the first the colours were brighter, on the second the background was better. I decided to merge the two pictures, removed nasty shadows and pieces of furniture spoiling the view. Finally, I added a simple frame. I left the totems as they are, I didn’t think they needed any improvement.
