Problem to know real size of edited photo!

Message par Zuri »

I do not understand this:

I edit and resize my (very large) digital photos on Photofiltre.

Usually I resize to a width of 800 pixels/inch. Photofiltre then says it is 1.37MB or 1.5MB -- but always between 1 and 2 MB.

BUT when I send off photos to a magazine or newspaper, they say they cannot use the photos because they are too small -- they must be over 1 MB!!

Why does Photofiltre say the image is over 1 MB, when IT IS NOT?

How do I solve this problem? What should the size on Photofiltre show, to be OVER 1 MB in reality?

Thank you!!! Zuri

Hi, but PhotoFiltre is able to say several things for the different status of the file :
  • When an image is saved in jpeg file, the jpeg window holds a Preview button.
If you left click on the Preview button, the preview size of the file is displayed above the button
  • When a jpeg file is open in PhotoFiltre the file is unzipped
and you can see the size of the place filled in memory by the image : right click on the image / Image size.
The size in memory is 8 times bigger as in file !! for a jpeg with 90% quality of compression. :)

For a print purpose, you need a resolution of 300 pixels/inch maximum (generaly between 200 and 300), if is not an art printing.
To proceed in PF6 in the correct order :
  • right click in a copy of image of the original file / Image size
  • Turn the units of New size in inches
  • Enter the destination size values in inches
  • Enter the resolution size as 300 pixels per inch
  • You can see your size in memory is very bigger as you think before :)

Thank you for the quick reply!

I am not sure I understand, but will try. I see my images as about 26 MB before editing (Jpg files). I then open the picture in Photofiltre for editing -- and that is where the problem is. I resize to between 1 - 2 MB's for ordinary use (emails, printing).

I am not very technically clever!!! I printed your answer and will try to figure it out. I really need to be able to resize to a REAL size of not less than 1 MB.
