cleaning up the edges
Hello all,
Often, when I replace the background colour of an object with the fill tool, some of the old background colour remains near the objects edges. Usually I try to clean the edges up with the spray tool/'replace colour' function , but this can be very difficult and laborious if the edges are uneven or of mixed shades. Is there a way of cleaning up these edges so that the remnants of the old colour are removed?
Thanks,
..... john

Hi John,
When your selection is closed, before to replace the background, try menu Edit/Optimized clipping.
There you can adjust the edges. Have a nice day.

Re: cleaning up the edges
Thanks Tom,
That worked fairly well. The other problem I have is that the background I'm trying to recolour is a variety of shades from black to to dark grey. Is there a way of making this all one colour?

Note..... If I'd chosen a more uniform background for my photo, I would not have this problem.

Re: cleaning up the edges
Nothing more easy : draw a selection around the background you want to replace, right clic / Stroke and fill.
Or If your optimzed clipping is in the clipboard, draw the entire image and paste the clipboard.

Re: cleaning up the edges
Beautiful...... works like a charm.
Amazing..... I've been using Photofiltre for a long time, and never knew how to use this. I've been trying to do it with the fill tool.
Thanks again Tom.

Re: cleaning up the edges
I'm very glad that you enjoy with this good tool.
Soon you will be still more amazed with the next PhotoFiltre 7 freeware release, (for the beginning of the next year, i think).
It will offer layers managment and you will be able to paste your optimized clipping as a layer uppon your background,
so you can refine the edges with several tools like a soft eraser with progressive edges.
Indeed the Studio X release (shareware for a modest price, with 30 days free trial ) is more advanced and holds some special tools for border effects,
like an adjustable progressive contour, which is very great to adjust the edges in real time.
And many other tools to retouch localy any imperfection or light or color or sharpness level...

Re: cleaning up the edges
Yes..... I look forward to the next release. (The freeware version is fine for me.)
Will there be some sort learning video for layers. I've
seem much talk about them, but have no idea what they're used for
or how to use them.
