But, when you are working in any other software, it's really easier to use a virtual printer like PDF Creator for saving your work as a pdf document.
For example when you scan several pages to do an unique document, you can do that from your favorite software and print in pdf without copy and paste in OpenOffice.
OpenOffice is a very good and cheaper alternative to MS Office, but it asks rather more time to be opened and ready to work.
They both are complementary.
