histogram plugin : possible enhancement

I'm trying to get the shadows better on some of my photo's. After testing the histogram plugin I think it can be improved:
Add one (or even two) rulers to the bottom of the histogram, so that it's not only possible to set low and high, but to make a difference for the shadows,mid tones and highlights. That way it could be possible to give the shadows more dynamic range and thus better visible. (Off course the midtones or highlight will "suffer")
The Gimp has 3 rulers, but I think 4 (low,shadows/midtones, midtones/highlights,high) would even give more possibilities.
