background after cut and paste

Hi,
I'm using Photofiltre 7 to cut and paste a circular fisheye image. I would like the area around the image to be white or black or some solid colour. As it is I have a checkered pattern there, which I'm guessing I can colour, but don't know how. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
.... john

1) select the center part of your imagre
2) Invert selection (right click in the selection)
3) Use the menu Edit > Fill & Stroke (CTRL+B) and fill only

Hi Antonio,
When I posted my original question I was using Photofiltre to cut a circular image from a fish eye photo; but then I tried the spheric option in Photofiltre, and WOW, what a difference. Please accept my compliments. This function does a BEAUTIFUL job.
Is this feature intended to produce fisheye effect?
Thanks again,
..... john
