gradual fading

Hi Forumers,
This morning I took a picture of a violet coloured flower against a green background (leaf), and for some reason the green came out faded at the edges. The fading goes from a quite light green to a deeper green toward the middle of the leaf. Is there a way of removing this fading effect?

I think the better is to use the Artistic tool in Grey mode with a low pressure.
