pasting onto a background

Hi,
I have a picture of a falcon, which is against a bright (overexposed) sky. I also have a background sky that I like. But when I copy the falcon (after making it's background transparent) onto the new sky, I get a very thin white outline around the bird. 'Paste Special .... mask' gives me a nice picture, but the background seems to show through the bird somewhat. Can anyone suggest what I might do?

P.S. The obvious solution would have been to 'not overexpose' the sky in the first place. But the 'spot' setting (on my camera) that I normally use for this kind of situation, did not prevent the sky from being overexposed. If anyone knows of another way of preventing this, I would appreciate hearing about it.

If the "mask" is not full black, it works with transparency, but you can apply it twice ?

To refine the edges in PF6 and 7 :

• zoom very high to adjust correctly the selection (PF6=one shot selection, PF7=combined selections)
• Or refine the mask of special paste :
