Can't edit pictures

I make a selection on a picture that I want to cut, but Photofiltre won't cut it. Everything under the EDIT menu is greyed out except for COPY. I'm running XP

Your image must be in indexed colors : do Image/Mode/RVB colors.

That doesn't help. I want to edit some gif files. Not animated ones just regular gifs. I can edit other types of files like bmp. It just won't let me do the gifs

Ok my bad that does work.. thanks for the help. Maybe in the next release you can have it so that the default setting will be RVB Colors? Or atleast allow the program to remember it.

you want to cut or crop ? the crop function is available in indexed mode.
To cut, you have to chose a background color, convert in RGB, cut and come back to indexed mode

I want to cut. No offense but it seems like a lot of steps just to do a standard thing. If the RGB color option could be selected by the user and left in that mode then it would work like most other graphic programs.
